SARAH ASTWOOD – PHYSIOTHERAPIST
B.Phty (Otago), PGDip (Acupuncture)
After graduating from Otago University in 2003 I spent a year working in private practice on the east coast of Australia and then did a short locum stint in Ireland while travelling Europe. I settled back into a community based clinic in Northshore Auckland where I spent 12 years working with a variety of ages and conditions. During that time I spent two years in London, where I worked within inpatient orthopaedics. While there I developed an interest in the speciality of chronic pain and decided to embark on further study.
In 2016 I completed a post-graduate diploma in Health Sciences through AUT majoring in acupuncture. This continues to be a special interest, and while I enjoy using needles and manual therapy in treatment, I also find it very satisfying to watch patients get stronger and more functional through exercise-based rehabilitation. Further study has enabled my wider understanding as well as increased my treatment options towards chronic pain and recurrent injury clients.
Outside of work hours I enjoy the outdoor lifestyle that the Bay of Plenty has to offer: beaches, bike tracks, trail running and of course regular walks up the Mount
